🎶 Siempre Te Cuidaré: The Gonzalez Legacy Returns to Freddie Records” 🎶

From the iconic walls of Legend Sound Studios in Corpus Christi, Texas, the unmistakable traditional sound of one of Tejano’s original bad boys continues to echo. Now led by Mike Gonzalez — son of the late Jimmy Gonzalez — the legacy of Jimmy Gonzalez lives on through the music of Mike Gonzalez & The Iconiczz.
Back in June, news broke that the Corpus Christi–based record label Freddie Records had officially sealed a multi-album deal with Gonzalez.
“We’re incredibly proud to welcome Mike Gonzalez & The Iconiczz to the Freddie Records family,” said Freddie Martinez Jr., President of Operations and Artist Relations. Gonzalez joins a new wave of Tejano artists revitalizing the label’s roster — names like Jesse Turner, Lucky Joe, and others who represent the modern heartbeat of the genre.
“He’s built a solid band that shares the same passion to both honor and innovate,” Martinez added. “We are excited to be part of this next chapter.”
The first release under the new deal is “Siempre Te Cuidaré,” written by Jesse Turner and produced by Cris Perales and Mike Gonzalez. The single is the lead track from the upcoming 12-song album and captures everything fans love about the Jimmy Gonzalez sound — warm, soulful, unmistakably Tejano — while blending in Mike’s own modern imprint.
“Mike’s connection to the music, and to Jimmy’s legacy, is unmatched,” Martinez noted.
Earlier this year, during a conversation with Gonzalez, he described how surreal it was to return to the place where it all began: Legend Sound Studios. Gonzalez launched his career under the direction of Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz. Seven years later, he found himself back in the same studio — this time at the helm of the project.
“I have been waiting for this moment,” Gonzalez said. “To come back to where it all started for me — Freddie Records, that same studio where I watched my dad produce and record — words can’t express what it means. Now I get to continue what my father and I started. The legacy lives on… but there will never be another Jimmy Gonzalez.”
Though we will never again hear the voice of Jimmy Gonzalez, his influence remains deeply woven into the sound of Mike Gonzalez & The Iconiczz. Through Mike’s leadership and the musicianship surrounding him, that legacy endures.
“Siempre Te Cuidaré” delivers a fresh, modern Tejano cumbia groove designed to keep fans hitting replay. The arrangement — paired with the commanding vocals of lead singer Isaac Vidaurri and a romantic, airy tease from Di Marie — gives the single its unmistakable emotional pull.
